Dermis (Leather Skin)
Anatomy
The dermis is a layer of skin beneath the epidermis that consists of connective tissue and cushions the body from stress and strain. The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane. It also harbors many nerve endings that provide the sense of touch and heat. It contains the hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, apocrine glands, and blood vessels. The blood vessels in the dermis provide nourishment and waste removal to its own cells as well as the Stratum basale of the epidermis. The dermis contains smooth muscle cells, e g for erection of hair.

Relay:
Mind
Theme:
Integrity, protection
Associated: attack, defilement
Skin affections have conflict themes according to their locality. This can be directly connected to the place where the conflict – e g attack or loss of touch – is experienced, or connected to these associations:
Side dominance is also relevant.
Emotions, Thoughts:
Vulnerability
- She casted dirt on me.
- I lost my integrity.
- They attacked and ruined my reputation.
- I need to grow “thicker skin”.
META-Meaning:
- Now, I can decide which contact is good and harmless to me.
- I am well-protected.
Organ
Stress Phase Symptoms:
Reinforcement of the dermis and increased activity of the sebaceous glands or sweat glands of the skin, as well as erection of hair (“goose pimples”). Typical symptoms are the development of blackheads, acne keloids up to a compact melanoma (when there is a mole involved) or an amelanotic melanoma (without mole). Black or blue melanoma appears as a melanocytic pigmented lesion, if by chance it grows in the place of a mole.
In shingles an amelanotic melanoma grows under the epidermis along one or more segments. (For shingles also see Epidermis ).
Chronic activity or epigenetically inherited strategies can be expressed in sclerodermia.
Regeneration Phase Symptoms:
Function normalization and decomposition of excess dermis tissue in presence of fungi or bacteria (candida, athlete’s foot, onychomycosis, leper), inflammation of sweat or sebaceous glands. This can show as pimples, acne or abscess. Melanoma may bleed or become inflamed.
Both dermis and epidermis can be affected in shingles (herpes zoster).
Dermis can be affected locally or in a whole skin segment (dermatome).
Biological Meaning:
In stress phase, the functions of the dermis are enhanced to better protect against external influences.
Social
Examples:
- Feeling defined, scarred emotionally after a breast operation (mastectomy)
- Stepping into a pile of shit with the toes and feeling totally disgusted
- A teenager struggles to find his position in the group and feels mobbed.
- Having to sit on toilet even if the toilet is completely dirty and looking awful
Additional Information
The pigment layer of the skin belongs to the basal layer of the epidermis. In a pigmented melanoma, both Cerebral Cortex and Cerebellum relays are affected in the conflict (separation and defilement/attack)
Constellations
Cerebellum Constellation: reduced sensitivity (physical and emotional), “natural pain killer” or “emotional burnout” with dissociation
Hygiene mania(together with Pancreas/Langerhans Alpha Cells): compulsive handwashing, extreme hygiene and fear of dirt and bacteria.
Differential Diagnosis:
Skin – Epidermis (Cerebral Cortex -/+) stress (in contact/separation): Thinning, flaking and dryness, sometimes depigmentation of skin in stress phase; reddening, swelling, itch and pain in regeneration phase (eczema).
Subcutaneous fatty tissue (connective tissue) (Cerebral Medulla -/+): Stress (attractivity, resourcelessness): Necroses, torn fibres and striae; Regeneration: oedema, cellulite, excessive replenishment, keloid neoplasms
Myelin sheath of nerves (Cerebellum +/-): Stress (fear of pain): possibly neurofibroma affecting several skin layers
Periosteum (CC -/+) Stress (deep pain, offence): pale, cold skin through vasoconstriction of capillaries
The skin and it’s supply is influenced by hormones.
