Navel – Umbilicus
Anatomy
The navel (umbilicus) is the scar or remnant of the umbilical cord which is made up of four different structures :
- arteries for taking waste to the placenta,
- a vein for supplying oxygenated blood and food,
- the allantois which degenerates and turns into the fetus´ bladder
- the vitello-intestinal duct which turns into the fetus´gut during pregnancy.
The opening is after birth closed by a plate of connective tissue. In the papilla, the skin is retracted.
The META-Health theme of the inner navel is concerning the functions of the umbilical cord, especially the excretory function, as the navel still can serve as a discharge pathway e g for pus. Brain
In the Brain Stem, the primeval ring structure is reflected: organ tissue relays with assimilative and digestive functions from oesophagus to small intestines are situated in the right brain stem, while excretory organs from caecum to rectum are relayed in the left brain stem. Medial on both sides are the relays of mouth/pharynx, middle ears and lacrimal glands, as well as the pineal and pituitary glands and the thyroid.

Stress Phase Symptoms:
If the need for discharge of substance through the navel arises (either physically or associated) which can´t be executed sufficiently, a tissue alteration may arise in the inner navel. This may have secretory or reabsorptive qualities and be diagnosed as adenoma or adenocarcinoma. The connective tissue closing the navel opens up.
Regeneration Phase Symptoms:
Necrosis of the tumor growth, often in the presence of bacteria, fungi or mycobacteria. Purulent smelly discharge, light fever and nightly sweating. The tumor can also encapsulate and remain as inactive remnant.
Biological meaning:
Accessory possibility to process and excrete moreover bladder and rectum.
Social
Being unable to excrete a substance that sits in the body: an object, food, alcohol…
Examples:
- After an operation (hysterectomy), the patient showed a repetitive discharge of pus and secrete through the navel. After opening a piece of gauze is found that had been left in the wound.
Additional Information
Umbilical tumors often appear as secondary processes (metastases).
