Uterus – Muscles (Myometrium)
Anatomy
The myometrium is the middle layer of the uterine wall consisting of smooth muscle cells and supporting stromal and vascular tissue. The inner layer of the uterine wall is the endometrium or uterine lining and the outer layer the serosa or peritoneum.
The myometrium itself consists of 3 layers of muscle fibres:
- the inner one has circular fibres
- the outer one has longitudinal fibres
- the intermediate layer has crossing fibres that run to and fro. These achieve involution and avoid bloodloss.
The myometrium stretches (the smooth muscle cells expand in size rather than number) during pregnancy to allow for the harboring of the pregnancy and contracts in a coordinated fashion during the process of labor. After delivery the myometrium contracts to expel the placenta and reduce blood loss. Lack of contraction at this stage is termed uterine atony. After pregnancy the uterus returns to its nonpregnant size by a process of myometrial involution.

Theme:
1. Pregnancy Self-devaluation, Identity regarding family-building
2. Unability to expel from the uterus or house.
Emotions and Thoughts:
1. Longing, search for a role
- I can’t get children.
- I can´t hold my child.
- I would so want to have a child!
- Children don’t suit me.
2. Irritation, exploitedness - I feel that it´s time that he/she left.
- I am feeling exploited now.
- It´s time to get rid of him/her.
META-Meaning:
1. I trust myself to give birth perfectly when I am ready and the circumstances are right. Me and my family are complete.
2. I am the master of my life!
Organ
Stress Phase Symptoms:
Increased tonus and thickening, fibroid (myoma, leiomyoma) growth. This happens often in connection to hormonal influence oestrogen combined with progesterone)
Regeneration Phase Symptoms:
Relaxation of muscle and regression of fibroids/leiomyomas. This happens often during and after pregnancy/birth. Fibroids can also stay (but not grow) after regeneration phase, like other smooth muscle reinforcements.
Healing Peak
Strong contractions of the uterus, equivalent with giving birth.
Biological Meaning:
Uterine muscles become stronger in order to maintain pregnancy or to facilitate the active phase of childbirth
Social
Examples:
- The eldest of six children had to raise and take care of her five siblings and it affected her badly. Therefore, she decided to never have kids. She developed five leiomyomas in her womb.
- The client wished to adopt 2 children who were then deported before she could even say adieu. Years later she gains weight visibly, and eventually fibroids are found in her uterus. When she found the cause and transformed her memory, the fibroids disappear. (Koch, MHU archive)
- A client with growing myomas finds out that she still feels resentfull towards a man who had lodged himself in her house. She felt exploited but didn’t have the means to make him leave. After she could let go of the memory and grudge, the myomas stop growing. (Klapp)
- The client is denying her femininity for the sake of her career. She tackles disempowering devaluating beliefs about being useless, and together with dietary changes (macrobiotics) and hormone therapy the tumor mass decreases for 2/3, and the uterus can be saved when having surgery. (Nonami)
Additional Information
Differential Diagnosis:
Uterus – Cervix, Neck, Mouth Muscle (Cerebral Medulla, -/+): Weakening/necrosis in stress phase (self-doubt concerning pregnancy) which can lead to premature birth; leiomyoma possible in regeneration phase.
Uterus – Endometrium (Brain Stem, +/-) Stress phase (sexual fight or loss): increased secretion and cell growth; regeneration phase: inflammation and degradation (fungal infection), strong menstrual bleeding
