Prostate
Anatomical overview
The prostate is a chestnut-sized male sexual accessory gland that produces a part of the sperm secrete. It is located just below the urinary bladder and ventral of the rectum, so it can be felt during a rectal exam. It is connected to the pubic bone, and embedded in the pelvic floor muscles.
The prostate surrounds the urethra and the ejaculatory canals that lead secrete from the epididymides and sperm from the seminal vesicles into the urethra. Also the prostate itself has excretory ducts that lead secrete into the urethra.
The secretory tubo-alveolar cells of the prostate alternate in the glandular tissue with smooth muscle cells and with elastic fibres called the stroma.
